COMPUTER SKILLS:
While job-hunting, utilize a voice messaging service at all times. Be sure the greeting is PROFESSIONAL. When answering your telephone, clearly state your name in full. If someone answers your phone other than yourself, make sure they understand the importance of taking an accurate message. Cell phones should be turned off before entering a company for an interview. Should you forget and your phone rings, quickly apologize and turn the telephone off immediately. DO NOT TAKE THAT CALL! Return business calls as soon as possible and NEVER text a potential employer unless they've instructed you to.
MANNERS:
The answer to this question depends on the individual company. But it's your responsibility to reseach when your target companies begin their hiring process. Also, weigh how important your last semester grades will be to making yourself more competitive. Should you delay your search to bring up your G.P.A.?
WHEN TO BEGIN INTERVIEWING:
HEAD'S UP!
After graduation, should you decide to take the summer off before interviewing because your parents want to reward you with a vacation as a graduation present, you just might have to justify your time off to a Human Resources employee that earns two weeks vacation a year, lives on their own and has to save for their trips. Good luck!
Social networking sites such as LinkedIn and Facebook have quickly become powerful tools for many new business applications, including hiring. As a result, you shouldn't put anything on these sites that you wouldn't want a prospective employer to see TODAY or TEN YEARS FROM NOW. This includes your friends who might not have as much at stake. Don't be naive and think that setting your profile to "invitation only" or "private" is a way to protect yourself. It's NOT. We still c u!
