Let's talk about networking. We all know the conventional ways; hit the classifieds, Craigslist, Monster, LinkedIn, tell a few friends, attend job fairs, brainstorm with alumni, etc. But there is so much more. Especially when faced with a tough economic climate, you have to be creative. Today, 80% of new job opportunities are found through networking. Your approach will become paramount to your success.


No one will come knocking at your door to offer or suggest the perfect work opportunity. Watching DVD's or spending endless hours "socializing" on Facebook might be fun, but come the weekend when your friends are talking "shop", your self-esteem is going to take a beating. I'm not saying your shouldn't have a life, just make sure your world doesn't become the land of missed opportunites. You should be able to boast a list of accomplishments each and every day. And thankfully, today, we have the benefit of "getting out there" in person or on-line. I suggest a mix of both.
